KEY Coalition November Meeting
Join us for our upcoming coalition meeting to talk about youth problem gambling with our guest speaker, Brittany Sue Hines! Brittany is an educator with 10 years of experience focusing primarily in sexual health education. She holds a BFA from the University of Hartford and a Masters in Education and Educational Psychology from the University of Missouri. In her current work as a Community Educator with Chicago-based Response for Teens, she “specializes in uncomfortable conversations” through her development and implementation of curriculum around sexual health, substance use and addiction, social media, and more. Brittany’s mission is to bringing joyful empowerment to young people and their trusted adults as a means of cultivating a more inclusive, resilient, and healthier future.
Her presentation will explore empathetic and comprehensive strategies for discussing gambling and sports betting with young people. She will delve into the neuroscience behind teen addiction and decision-making, explaining why youth are especially vulnerable to gambling-related issues. Attendees will learn communication strategies that promote awareness and informed choices. She will conclude with new research collected from pre-professional young athletes from MLS Academies around the country regarding their feelings toward one day being bet upon.
Our meeting will occur in a hybrid format. If you plan on attending in-person, please meet us at the Takiff Center of the Glencoe Park District (999 Green Bay Road, Glencoe, IL, 60022). We will be meeting in Community Room 4. Please park in the parking lot behind the building and enter through the back entrance. Once you enter the building, you can ask the front desk to direct you to the appropriate room. If you can’t make it in-person, join us on Microsoft Teams!
